Day Two

It's the second day of my internship in Hong Kong, and I have already observed a great amount of things about this agency, both good and bad. I guess I couldn't turn off my spidey senses after my organizational assessment this past spring semester. I am working at Kung Yung Koon which is one of the offices of H.K.S.K.H. Lady MacLehose Centre Services for Ethnic Minorities. I never thought about ethnic minorities in other countries before, and I was surprised to find out about the Pakistani population in Hong Kong. The organization is a great resource to help assist EM families, and I really want to learn more about the history, development, what types of resources, and more.

Lucky me, I was able to attend a meeting on my first day where I was hoping to get a good overview of what types of services and events they have for the ethnic minorities. However, I was too busy fighting the urge to STOP the multiple side conversations, people answering their cell phones, and people eating food in front of others who started fasting. It was the first day of Ramadan. I didn't want to be THAT person on my first day. However, when it was my turn to introduce myself, I glared at the two guys to the left of me to shut up before I spoke. How rude is it to have a conversation right next to someone who is new and is trying to introduce herself? VERY. And they weren't even trying to whisper!!! I am trying really hard understand the work culture in Hong Kong, and I want to focus on learning more about the agency in order to figure out my role as an intern here. But it's a struggle... I just went to the first part of a 3D printing training, and I noticed the lack of professionalism as well. I think this will be something I will have to look past...

Shifting to a more positive note! Here are a few things during my day that made me smile.

Super cute chairs on the bus!

My yummy lunch! BBQ pork and duck! And a side of soup!
