Day Fifteen

The day before my flight to Seoul!! Eeeee!!! I am so over Hong Kong right now. I am ready for Seoul!!! Finalized some of my dates with old friends and co-workers. Super excited!!

This day started with me being a poor translator. I helped a Vietnamese client today go to a Chinese medicine doctor. It was interesting how the doctor was checking him. I'm used to a stethoscope. Not for a Chinese medicine doctor. He checked the guy's pulse. It reminded me of all the historical Chinese dramas I used to watch with my sister. It was also my first time seeing acupuncture in real life! It freaked me out. I think I'll pass on needles getting stabbed into me.

I also had to get some shopping to do before leaving for Korea. I was able to find all the things I need for my workshop. It was kind of fun to have the kids help me. And everything was easy to find except people-sized paper. I really miss going to the teacher's lounge and getting butcher paper. I have to get a little creative and tape two "big" pieces of paper together in order for it to be tall enough to fit a kid on it. And the thing I thought would be the hardest to find, was the first thing I bought! Lavender scented oil. A big bottle of it. Yay!

And for lunch today... I passed by a Pizza Hut. I had to try the special for the summer. Thousand Island Seafood pizza. The two things my dad likes. Thousand Island. Seafood. I'm not sure if I'd order it again, but I'm glad I tried it. It's different. I also found these Ovaltine ice cream cones!!!! And it was YUMMM!!

[edit] I finally went to the Hello Kitty Chinese Cuisine restaurant!!!!! AND IT WAS AS CUTE AS THE PICTURES I'VE SEEN ONLINE!!! I went a little picture crazy. The outside was cute. The inside was cute. The restroom mirror was cute. And of course... THE FOOD!!! Thanks to my wonderful friends for going with me. They also took me to get some dessert afterwards... I'm not sure what the name is, but it was an all green tea dessert shop!!! It was delicious even though I lost a mochi. And on our way there, I found a Ten Ren. I can't wait until our next foodie adventure!!

Day Fourteen

Preparations for my workshop is going pretty well. I'm a bit nervous about finding the supplies that I need... I remember when I lived in Seoul and needed arts and crafts items that are easily found at Target, Walmart, and Hobby Lobby, I couldn't find them anywhere. Daiso didn't have what I needed. There was E-Mart which reminded me a bit of Walmart, but I couldn't find everything that I needed. I definitely missed the one-stop shop type places.  I guess we shall see how it goes...

Lunch was different today. I decided to be adventurous and try an authentic Pakistani restaurant. I had super yummy chicken curry with some roti. I would definitely order again. And I found super yummy green tea Kit Kat ice cream cones!! YUMMM!!! Food points for Hong Kong!

[edit] I went on an adventure in Tsim Sha Tsui after work. I HAD to go to Sasa in order to buy Sailor Moon and Cardcaptors make-up for a friend in Seoul and for myself... (And I ended up buying Hello Kitty make-up... because I can...) My trip to Seoul is the day after tomorrow! Woo! Before I did some shopping, I had to feed myself first. I found a Din Tai Fung. Spicy wontons and xiao long baos... YUM! I wanted to order more, but I planned to go to Beard Papa's, which was a little difficult to find with the construction... But I found it! They didn't have a different flavor though... It's still melon flavor season... Bummer. Hopefully, they'll have something different next month!

Day Thirteen

I really need to brush up on my Vietnamese. Rosetta Stone it or something. I am going to visit the Vietnamese neighborhoods in Hong Kong again tomorrow evening, and I need to not be so nervous and embarrassed with my Vietnamese. I should have paid more attention in Vietnamese class on Sundays back in the day... So, I'm needed to translate for the refugees that can't speak or understand Chinese. There is a man that needs to go to the doctor, and I am the one that needs to tell him when and where and of course be at the appointment with him. I don't know technical terms. I didn't even know how to say the word "citizen" last week! It's nice that I can be of some assistance with my limited vocabulary. Wish me luck!

So, I went to a super cute restaurant last night for dinner. I decided not to be an old grandma and go straight home. I walked to Kwai Chung Plaza where I bought lots of cute clothes for my nephews and neice (who isn't here yet).

Day Twelve

It was a struggle to get to work today... I kept going back to my dorm... forgetting things... being paranoid... I lost count how many times I went back into the building and up the elevator... I was 30 minutes late... Early signs of OCD? I'm so congested that I feel the snot stuck inside my brain... I don't want to do any analytical type thinking about my field placement today... I think this post will be a fun post about my weekend adventures!! Yay!!

I explored a small part of Tsim Sha Tsui this past weekend. I've been here for almost a month, and I haven't gone on a single Hello Kitty adventure yet. (A successful one...)To make up for the slack, I went to two of the Hello Kitty spots I wanted to explore. The first Hello Kitty shop is the Hello Kitty Green Living shop. I wasn't sure what to expect. A green version of the super pink Hello Kitty cafes in Korea? I was wrong. It's a small shop where you can get organic items. I had to get something, but I didn't know what. Then I spotted a sign on the cash register! If I liked and shared with five friends about the location, I get 50% off and free chopsticks and honeycomb mixer! Winner! But then... that meant I had to re-download the Facebook app onto my phone... And I was doing so well! Womp womp.

After soaking up the tree-hugging cuteness, I had lunch at Ichiran!!! I am so excited that there is an Ichiran here in Hong Kong. I felt like I traveled back to Japan! Minus the whiney Chinese girls thinking they sounded cute... I felt like I was in Japan. OH! The toilets with bidets were a nice touch to the Japanese feel! LOL! Definitely going to Ichiran a few more times before I leave Hong Kong! #jimmycanthave

My Hello Kitty adventure continues! The Hello Kitty Le Petit Cafe I was searching for (but ended up finding Beard Papa's)... moved to Tsim Sha Tsui! Sadly, they're going to be moving again in July... They have another location that serves food... got to check it out in the future! Got some goodies from this cafe, but I really wanted the Hello Kitty shaped pork jerky... but it wouldn't last until I fly back to Houston... SIGH.

So many cute things in Tsim Sha Tsui. I already have plans to explore other cafes and a bookstore that originated in Taiwan. We will see what treasures I find!!

[edit] Just had lunch... and found yummy treasures already! I've noticed the dim sum steamer things since the first day I started here, but I haven't had the courage to go and try it. Until today. I wanted the usual har kau and siu mai... But no har kau... I decided to be adventurous and try another dumpling the lady recommended. And they had xa xiu bao! And the yellow custard one I like!! And I'm so glad that xi dau means soy sauce in Hong Kong as well... Is that Cantonese? I asked for some xi dau and she poured some in a little bag for me. I seriously need to learn Cantonese... at least the basics that will get me yummy food!
